solstice on the mountain!
Hello everyone!I had a really wonderful weekend in Trout Lake. I went up Thursday after work. I stopped at Wampler’s and set up my tent in the backyard and unloaded my car before heading over to Jimmy’s place. To celebrate the solstice we were going to have a fire with lots of music and friends. Jimmy and I hung out watching Biscuit, his and Andrea’s little kitten tearing up trees and climbing higher than she’d ever gone before. We listened to the strange sounds coming from a neighbor’s place: 15 sled dogs barking with 4 donkeys joining in is a freaky freaky sound to hear drifting through the forest. People began arriving and a fire was started. Jimmy cooked me up a sausage for dinner over the fire (yumm!). As the long light of the longest day lingered the guys played music and I talked and laughed with friends. It was a great way to celebrate the Solstice.
Friday morning Kelly and Wampler and I sat in Wamp’s sunny backyard with our coffee and a breakfast of strawberries, cherries and donuts. Kelly is a massage therapist and had brought her table so Wamp got a massage. I drove up to the lake where I took pictures and gazed at the massive mountain. We would spend the whole day in the backyard as friends arrived and hung out. Wamp and Kelly replaced the heating elements in the sauna and got that thing really cooking. Alicia and Lincoln came over with Chiron and we all lounged in the grass. I walked Chiron to the back fence to meet the cows. The cows were just as interested in the baby as he was with them. I took an early evening nap in my tent, watching the shadows from the locust trees on the nylon walls. We spent the evening around the fire in Wamp’s backyard listening to music and talking.
Saturday was another beautiful day. Again Wampler’s backyard was the hang out spot with blankets spread in the grass and camping chairs circled around. We ate biscuits and gravy (made by Dave Clarke of course) and soaked up the sun. In the afternoon I drove with Amy up to Langfield Falls in the National Forest. It’s a small waterfall, about 60 feet high, but I’d never seen it before and wanted to check it out. It was Amy’s first time in Trout Lake so I took her to see the camp spot at 8 mile and the view of Mt Adams from the lake. Back at Wampler’s everyone was enjoying the sauna and hanging out. John made a flotilla of little boats to bob around on the dunk tank. That man can work wonders with an empty beer box and a PBR can. That evening we had a potluck at Wamp’s house. The grill was fired up and Jimmy made ribs and Wamp cooked up some fantastic chicken. There was lots of food and no one left hungry. We spent the night around the fire in the backyard, more music and laughing.
Sunday was a cloudier and cooler day. I made an egg bake for breakfast and after hanging out for awhile decided to break down my tent and head back to Portland. As I drove down into the Gorge it began raining and I would spend the rest of the day reading my book, picking up my house and watching movies.
So that was my weekend! Please let me know how you are and what you’ve been up to!
