a gasp for air and some whoop whoops

Now I can open my mouth and scream and whoop. We're over Husum Falls and have to get back up quickly and paddle so we don't hit the wall of rock or the bridge pilings we're coming up on quickly. Ben, our guide, shouts commands. The adrenaline gushes.

I was amazed I was able to hold onto the paddle. I have small hands and I couldn't wrap my fingers all the way around the paddle handle and the rope. I figured it was better to lose a paddle then myself. You hold yourself in the boat by pushing your legs on the seat in front of you. I have strong legs. I didn't fall out once the whole 2 hour trip. We did jump out on one calm stretch to swim but the water was so cold that I lasted less than a minute. 40 degrees is cold, even in a wetsuit on a warm day.

Rafting the White Salmon River...I highly recommend.
