infrequently maintained
Jess and I hiked the Wygant Trail in the Columbia River Gorge, just one exit west of Hood River. It was a 6.1 mile loop with 1200 feet elevation gain. The hiking book (good old William Sullivan) mentioned that it was an "infrequently maintained trail, expect downed trees across the trail." They weren't kidding. There were tons of downed trees and section of the trail that was completely washed away, causing us to scramble over a slippery rock wall. The trail was beautiful though with tons of wildflowers blooming and fantastic views of the Gorge. Not all of the downed trees actually blocked the trail such as these which we could easily walk under.
