The Frizbee Masters!
Hello everyone!
I had a really great weekend! I left with Gina, Elaine, Dave and a whole bunch of other friends on Friday morning to drive to Silver Falls State Park. This is where the annual Frizbee Masters tournament is held every spring. We had awhole group camping area for the weekend which was divided up into several smaller camps with an outdoor covered kitchen area and a lodge type room with huge fireplace. There were several cabins which most people slept in but we slept in our cars. Friday afternoon we set up our stuff, made a quick lunch then went out for some practice rounds of frisbee golf.
It was an 18 hole course and it was absolutely beautiful. I did throw into the creek on one shot but was thankfully pulled out by someone else who had also thrown into the water. I did see several frisbees go into the swimming pool that hadn't been cleaned yet this year. There were salamanders swimming about in the green water and the discs couldn't be recovered due to the murky waters. It was a little rainy yet on Friday so I got a bit wet. I was golfing pretty well and having a great time. We did 12 holes before calling it a day. It was so nice to come back to camp a be able to dry my shoes in front of the raging fireplace. We went down to the BBQ at the dining hall before heading back to camp for the evening. We hung out around the fire, drinking some beers before heading off to sleep.
Saturday we were up around 7 for some coffee and quick breakfast. We all got dressed up (polyester or other hideous, ugly clothes are REQUIRED on the course). I was wearing an ugly pastel skirt with a handmade button-up shirt made from a hilarious fabric with unicorns on it. It was so entertaining to watch everyone golfing in their ugly clothes. The weather was beautiful with no more rain and more and more sunshine. I didn't golf as well as I had on Friday but I had lots of fun. After eating lunch I took a long nap since I'd woken up so early.
Gina and I helped with some set-up for that night's costume ball before jumping in line early for dinner. After dinner we hung around our campsite for a while before getting dressed up for the night's festivities. The theme was Good vs Evil. I went as Betty Crocker. I was going to bring a bunch of baked goods anyway and I could recycle my Halloween dress for the occasion. There were tons of great costumes and ltos of people dancing to the band. There were go-go cages and lights set up. It was generally pretty hilarious. I handed out all my cookies and rice krispie treats. I did take a spill at one point though. I walked down the stairs outside and on the ground was a small hole. I was wearing heels and stepped into the hole and fell. I wasn't hurt but I did feel better when I saw someone else trip on the same hole...it's not just me! I'm sure I looked funny though...Betty Crocker eats it! For the record I was drinking but I was by no means drunk. damn hole!
We eventually headed back to our camp where we gathered around the fire before sleep called. I slept great but woke up the next day with a sore foot (the falling incident from the previous night). I was not up for playing another 18 holes especially since it was the foot I have to stick for my throws. Ah well! Elaine and Gina weren't up for golfing either so we decided to simply be spectators. We walked down to the course after lunch and sat in the sun watching people golfing all around us. We took lots pictures and had a great time walking around. We regularly walked up to the chapel which was an outdoor church type setting on a hill in the forest. It is a rainforest so the trees were all dripping with moss and lovely with the sun filtering through. It was a great place to watch people golfing through and we even saw a hole-in-one! We watched the leader group play their last several holes. We had a few good friends in the group so it was even more exciting to watch them play. They are really incredible frisbee golfers. We all watched our friend Bryan make an unbelievable shot to seal his win. We all screamed and clapped and whooped it up on the hillside. Yeah!
After all the rounds were through we cleaned up camp some then went down for the awards ceremony. Bryan received an ugly jacket (just like in golf) and the praise of all his competitors. It was really cool to watch someone I golf with on weekends come in and win the tournament. I'll definitely have to pay attention to the tips he gives me. Finally we finished cleaning up camp and packing everything before heading back to Portland. We were all tired and a little dirty but we all had an absolute blast. I can't wait to go back next year! Great people in ugly clothes throwing frisbees in a rainforest makes for a really fun weekend! I took hundreds of pictures which I will start posting this week. Too much fun!!!
Please let me know what you did this weekend and how you are!
xoxo,
carolyn

Hello,
You do not know me, but I was trying to research the Maasters at Silver Creek Falls. I had gone in 2003 & 2004 but could not make it last year. I came across your blog using google and was excited to see that you had taken tons of great pictures. Since I did not attend last year they did not send me a flyer for this years and I'm desperately trying to figure out what weekend it is on for 2006. I do not want to miss it. Did you get a flyer and can you help fill me in of the time/date and theme?
