the boomers bust through

It's definitely mushroom season in the forest. The night before I'd been to a potluck where I had deep fried, beer battered wild mushrooms. The chanterelles were especially delicious!

I should really carry my little mushroom identification book in my backpack at this time of year. Anyone know what kind of mushroom this big guy is?

my hand for scale of course...

This shroom looks like a bolete to me (genus boletus - poetic too). You'd have to see the underside etc to do a better ID - could be a boletus edulis, the famed 'King Bolete' (Italians call 'em porcini) - my favorite NW edible, much sought after by mushroomers like myself up here. This one looks like the bugs have gotten to it though.

Don't know if you still monitor this site - but I gotta say you're an excellent and natural photographer. Wow! is what came to mind when looking at your pics. Beautiful, too, if I'm not out of line and can state the obvious. Linked to your site while searching some San Juan island info, planning a sailing trip up there from Seattle this summer, as soon as solstice comes around and we finally get some real daylight.

Cheers - keep clickin' that shutter!
