The city of Portland recently filed a lawsuit against the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). This federal agency is requiring that the city cover these reservoirs to protect against a bacteria called Cryptosporidium.

This stems from an outbreak of this bacteria in the drinking water of Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the 1993. I was a teenager living outside of Milwaukee when it occurred. Portland states that their drinking water source, the Bull Run watershed where no humans are permitted to enter, is far safer than Milwaukee's source, Lake Michigan, which sees heavy pollution and human activity.

I'm very interested to see what the end result will be. I live near Mt Tabor and it is one of my favorite places in Portland.
