cold rain

Hello everyone! I had a fun, mellow weekend.

Friday night I went to Elaine and Gina's house. We had a great dinner of steak and salad. Before dinner we toasted to my continued presence among the living. I had a horrifying freeway experience last Thursday where I lost control of my car while going 60 mph and spun out. By some absolute miracle I didn't hit anyone else (though it was during heavy morning traffic), no one hit me and my car escaped serious damage. The bumpers took the brunt of it on both the front and back end as I spun around & around and hit the concrete barrier twice. I am very, very lucky.

After dinner I gave John a haircut. I had cut Ryan's hair for 4 years so John's cut turned out remarkably similar to Ryan's. haha! Afterwards we played a game of Shanghai Rummy. During the game John's friend called from the Paul McCartney concert. It was a hilarious phone call with terrible reception. Dave won the contest of deciphering from the 2 second snippets what song he was playing (Band on the Run).

Saturday morning I went back to their house beckoned by the promise of steak & eggs(Friday dinner leftovers) for breakfast. Dave prepared the food and it was so yummy! I spent much of the morning playing on Flickr. It's an online photo site that I've recently become obsessed with. It's great to get feedback on some of my photos. Take a look if you'd like

In the afternoon Elaine and Gina and I drove downtown to PGE Park to watch the kickball finals. Elaine is in a dodgeball league and many of her teammates are also in a kickball league. It was cold and rainy but we were at least under cover. We ran in circles and up and down the stairs to warm ourselves up. The team lost unfortunately and we walked to a nearby bar to get a drink and warm up. From there we drove to Pho Van to meet John for dinner. We were all starving and loved the meal. Afterwards we drove to the Watertrough Saloon on Hawthorne. Elaine and Gina played some Ms Pacman (they're freakishly good) and we also played some pinball but the star of the evening was shuffleboard for sure! We played on teams (me & John vs. the Hilbert girls). The goal was to win by 2 games but it was simply impossible! The series would be tied, one team would win then the next game would tie it up again. This went on and on until we'd played 15 games of shuffleboard and had been there for hours! I went home expecting to dream of waxy tables and being bumped.

Sunday I spent the morning watching Netflix & finishing a great book by Carl Sagan. Dave bought many copies of this book and handed them out to his friends with the agreement that you pass the book along when you're done. I think I know who I'll give my copy to. I went over to Elaine & Gina's and watched a movie called Heights. Gina made me a yummy grilled cheese sandwich with some chicken tortilla soup. Later we played some cards before calling it a night.

So that was my weekend. Please let me know what you've been doing. I hope all is well!

carolyn

Carolyn,
I was sad this morning because I'm back at work after a long weekend with my sister here. I have to say your posts have gotten me through many a crappy Monday (or Tuesday). I love your photos and thinking of you loving life on the West Coast. I feel cheered.
xoxo
