you never know who you'll find

Hello everyone!

I had a mellow weekend at home which was nice since somehow I have something going on every weekend from now until the weekend after Labor Day. Summer needs to be longer!! Friday night Camille and I went to Elaine, Gina and Dave’s house and had a wonderful meal of steaks from the grill and salad. Later that evening we went to a nearby bar, Thatchers, where we met up with Erin and Terry and some other friends. It was fun but I got sleepy fast and went home pretty early.

Saturday I watched some episodes of Wonder Woman on DVD with Camille and Larry. Camille borrowed the whole first season from someone she works with. It’s pretty hilarious. I’d forgotten that it was set during World War II. We then watched a few episodes of the Dave Chappelle Show. I read my book for a long time then went to meet up with Elaine and Gina. The three of us went to our friend Brian’s house who was having a going away party for people I didn’t really know but Elaine did. There was tons of food but best of all was playing ping pong with Elaine and Gina. It had been a long time since we’d played so it was really fun to play a few games. The party continued to grow with people we didn’t know so we decided to go to another friends’ house nearby. Bridget had called to invite us to her and Adam’s house for a Poker party. We got there too late to join the Poker game but instead we hung out in the backyard and played a few rounds of Euchre. I don’t think I’d played since I was 12 years old and my grandpa taught me so it was good to be refreshed.

Sunday I read my book and watched movies. I weeded my garden and put up a little fence to try and protect it from the neighbor boy’s soccer balls. I met up with Jess for dinner at a Thai place on Hawthorne. After eating we decided to just go for a walk down Hawthorne. It’s a great place for people watching. We walked past a bar and I thought I recognized the guy sitting in the window so we went back. It was Alex!!! He had dated my sister, Sara, for many years and he had lived at my parents’ house for a time before they moved to Bellingham together about 9 years ago. They had broken up many years ago and Alex and I had lost touch. Sara told me that she’d heard he’d moved to Portland. I had even googled his name in an attempt to find him but to no avail. So I was blown away to run in to him and we’re getting together later this week to catch up. Crazy stuff!

After that I stopped by Gina’s house where Ben had brought over vanilla ice cream and juicy nectarines. We watched a movie, Kinsey, before going home early for bed. I’m now on my summer schedule for work of 10 hour days with 3 day weekends. Gina and I will be leaving Friday morning for a camping trip on Mt Rainier! I’m so excited!

Please let me know how you are and what you’ve been up to!

Xoxo,
carolyn
